As you might remember from a few posts back, the first season of Magic Online 2009 Championship Series is now underway.

Photobucket

The Online Championship itself is played during the World Championship in Rome, and the 8 players will win a minimum of $4,000 USD, with $13,000 going out to the first place winner.

Now players have an extra incentive to continue playing despite already having enough Qualifying Points (QPs) - the 2009 Magic Online Player of the Year Race.

Magic Online Player of the Year...has a nice ring to it. Earn the most QP points over the course of the 2009 Magic Online Championship Series and the title is yours! In addition to the title, the Magic Online Player of the Year will receive an invitation to the 2009 Magic Online Championship and will be pre-qualified to compete in all Season Championships in the 2010 Magic Online Championship Series.

2009 Magic Online Format Champions of the Year

The players that earn the most QP points in the following categories will be named the 2009 Magic Online Champion for that format. The categories that will be tracked and awarded are:

* Standard Constructed play
* Block Constructed play*
* Extended Constructed play
* Classic Constructed play
* Sealed play*
* Draft play*

In addition to the title, the Magic Online Format Champions of the Year will pre-qualify for their choice of one of the Season Championships in the 2010 Magic Online Championship Series.

Wizards of the Coast will post and update the top 100 players and their point totals for each of these races, along with each season's points. Point lists will be updated once a week.

*Play across all product mixes will be aggregated for each of these titles. There will only be one overall champion for the Block Constructed, Sealed, and Draft play formats.
