Vampires and Trap surged to the top with the Trap deck, featuring mana accelerators into a Summoning Trap to spring out a very fast game-breaker - Iona, Shield of Emeria came out of nowhere to put 2 players onto the top 8 along with Vampires, 2 Jund decks, Grixis Control, Boros and Mono Red. 36 players attended the GPT, awarding the 3-round byes to winner QJ Wong and finalist Freddy Wong, as Chye Yian Hsiang, Phang Kok Fai, Freddy Wong and Ng Wei San coming back for repeat performances at the top 8, showcasing these players mastery of the format with such consistent finishes.
QJ Wong and his Vampires fought off Ng Wei San’s Grixis Control’s challenge for the 3-round byes in the Semifinals, but not before defeating Chye Yian Hsiang and his Trap deck in the Quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Freddy Wong and his Trap deck dispatched Alex Hew’s Jund in the Semifinals after fighting off Phang Kok Fai’s Jund in the Quarterfinals. Nik’s Mono-Red fell to Ng Wei San’s Grixis Control while Hiew Chee Choong’s Boros lost to Alex Hew’s Jund in the other 2 Quarterfinals matchup.
