Quarterfinals
Chye Yian Hsiang vs Matthew Wong
Chye started the game after Wong took a mulligan but he had the first play with an Arbor Elf but Chye had a Stoneforge Mystic to follow up with, fetching a Sword of Feast and Famine. Wong further develop his position with an Explore and a Fauna Shaman off the extra land drop the sorcery gave him.
A Duress from Chye saw two Forests and a Beast Within in Wong's hand and the instant hit the bin. The Sword entered the battlefield via Chye's Mystic, and on the following turn, an Inquisition of Kozilek which was Preordain-ed allowed Chye to check if the coast was clear or even empty out Wong's hand showed Chye an Eldrazi Temple and a Forest, prompting him to hit away with his equipped Mystic, untapping all of his lands to summon Jace the Mind Sculptor's help to ensure Wong did not draw anything relevant with his +2 ability.
Wong drew the card graciously left on top by Chye, exclaiming "Awesome!" as he quickly passed the turn after knocking Jace down to 2 loyalty with his elves and soon was yet again at the receiving end of an attacking Mystic and Creeping Tar Pit. Jace left another card in top on Wong's library as Chye summoned Squadron Hawks to defend Jace and with the help of Jace's unsummon ability and Into the Roil slowly rips away Wong's board with the help of the Sword's discard effect, which eventually convinced Wong to scoop it in for game 2.
Chye 1-0 Wong
Game 2
Chye is the one to take a mulligan on the draw this time as Wong laid down a Joraga Treespeaker on his first turn. Turn 2 saw the Treespeaker levelled up to summon a Fauna Shaman as Chye could nothing until his second turn as he cast Go for the Throat on the Treespeaker, a turn too late. An Elvish Archdruid is found via Fauna Shaman as Wong discarded an Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. The Archdruid failed to enter the battlefield as Chye had a Mana Leak for it but double Tectonic Edge stripped Chye of his mana sources as the elves grew more and bigger with yet another Elvish Archdruid despite Chye’s 2nd Go for the Throat. An Acidic Slime destroyed another land, and soon enough Chye was packing it in for the last game.
Chye 1-1 Wong
Game 3
Chye started the game but Wong had the first play with a Joraga Treespeaker, and this time Chye had an Into the Roil to disrupt Wong’s mana development and waste his turn as Wong tried to level her up. Preordain grabbed a Stoneforge Mystic who inturn grabbed a Batterskull while Wong’s Treespeaker met her demise via Disfigure as Wong tried to level her up. Llanowar Elves and Elvish Archdruid entered the battlefield as Batterskull joined the fray through the Mystic. Jace the Mind Sculptor sent off the Archdruid back into Wong’s hand as Chye’s 4/4 Germ token and his Mystic smashes in for 5 damage.
With Chye tapped out, Wong took the opportunity to land a Primeval Titan who brought into play a Tectonic Edge and Eldrazi Temple. Undeterred, Chye ‘Brainstormed’ with Jace before summoning a Stoneforge Mystic and fetched Sword of Feast and Famine to allow Chye to smash past the Primeval Titan with his well-equipped Germ token, taking Wong down to 8 with Chye standing at 28. Wong discarded an Elvish Archdruid and after a long consideration, passed his turn.
Wong attacked with his Titan into the Protection from Green Germ token, sacrificing the Titan to fetch an Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temple and buffing Chye’s lifetotals to 34.On the following turn, Chye used Jace to bounce his Mystic to search for another Batterskull before attacking with his Germ token, but a Summoning Trap from Wong allowed him to put into the battlefield an Acidic Slime after much consideration to destroy the Sword of Feast and Famine and kill off the germ with his creature with deathtouch. Before taking his turn, Wong destroyed Chye’s Creeping Tar Pit with his Tectonic Edge and after much counting of his mana sources, played a Primeval Titan to fetch two more Tectonic Edges.
Chye flashes in his 2nd Batterskull with an active Mystic as Chye used Jace to draw him out of the current board position, but with Wong finding an Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre with Eye of Ugin, and between the annihilator’s ability and Tectonic Edges further demolishing Chye’s mana base, Chye couldn’t do anything but concede the game and match.
Chye 1-2 Wong
